Knockavilla NS are through to the county final of this year’s U11 Allianz Cumann na mBunscol Roinn D football championship following a hard-fought victory over a gallant Boher NS side.
Meeting halfway in Borrisoleigh, this semi-final was a close encounter from start to finish. Knockavilla NS were first out of the blocks, with Ted Ryan raising a green flag in the opening minute. However, Boher NS quickly responded with a goal and a point in quick succession to leave the smallest of margins between the sides. Knockavilla NS finished the first half well though and scored another three points from Ewan McGlinchey and Brian Quirke (2) to leave the half-time score: Knockavilla NS 1-03, Boher NS 1-01.
Boher NS dominated the early stages of the second half and pointed to leave the minimum between the teams. They continued to press forward but Conor Breen in the Knockavilla goal was in inspirational form for the boys from West Tipperary as he quelled many dangerous attacks. Then in the closing stages, Knockavilla’s Aaron Kelly scored a crucial point before a goal each from Thomas Tierney and Eoghan Quirke sealed the victory.
