Fabulous flowers
In Science we have been looking at absorption of water through the stems of flowers. We experimented with various different food colourings to investigate this. We placed a variety of white flowers in jars of water, three of which had food colouring added and one as the control with no colouring. We monitored the flowers over a number of days and found we had very little to report in terms of absorption in the flowers. We discussed possible adaptations to our initial experiment and started again. The results this time were immediate and much more concrete. We charted the results over a number of days and noted that the flowers which were in the food colouring began to change colour as a result of absorption of the liquid through the stem. Our flowers lasted for two weeks and the depth of colour increased each day.
