Our Junior Infant pupils were thrilled to take part in the Incredible Edibles programme this year. In early Spring, we carefully planted a variety of seeds- turnip, carrot, spring onions, chives, lettuce, seed potatoes, strawberry plants and even a tomato plant. We watered them regularly and kept them indoors until the risk of frost had passed. Then we moved our seedlings and small plants to the greenhouse, kindly provided by KNS Parents Association in conjunction with the Pollinator Plan. We tended to our vegetables regularly and checked on their progress. We were delighted when before the summer holidays, we harvested our crop! The children pulled up the carrots and dug out the potatoes with delight! We washed our fruits and vegetables and made chips from the potatoes which were enjoyed with different varieties of lettuce, grated carrot, sping onion, chives and strawberries. We enjoyed a very tasty picnic, sampling our fresh organic produce.
