January in Seomra 2
Athbhliain faoi mhaise dhaoibh go léir! It’s great to see how much the children have grown and how well they are maturing and enjoying work in Room 2. We got off to a cold start learning Arctic facts, perfecting our penguin walk, painting penguins and colouring life-sized varieties of penguins. Senior Infants did a wonderful job writing all about penguins and learning on a map where the different species live.
The class was transported around the world learning about the seven continents with some fabulous resources and they created their own passports so that they would be travel-ready! We enjoyed stories and discussed the ways our religion supports friendship, community and the environment for Catholic School’s Week.
We excelled at our word work in copies, in matching activities and on the laptops with our partners.Number work in First Class crossed into science, using cubes to learn about forces and the effect of friction on the movement of a marble in the classroom and in the Halla. Gymnastics was such fun practicing basic rolls and balance and learning about careful jumps and landing positions.
First Class counted coins, drew and added different combinations up to fifty cents, and measured different parts of the room when studying Length. Much excitement was felt preparing for the Chinese New Year and our imaginations were stretched using familiar fairytales as a springboard. Bhí an spóirt againn ag cabhrú leis an gCocailín Dearg ag ealú ón mac tíre agus ag caint faoin leanbh nua. We also enjoyed some add-on singing, creating our own rhymes to fit ‘There was an Old Lady’ in story and song.
Goodbye to winter and we are all looking forward to a wonderful Spring.
