April:

Toys was a big topic in our class this month, bhíomar ag caint faoi na breagáin is fearr leis na paistí agus gach rud a bíonn sa seomra breagáin. We learned about toys from the past and created a class toy museum. The children also took part in a show and tell lesson with their favourite toys.  Another big theme this month was the weather. The children became weather forecasters, heard weather stories,  had a weather sounds quiz and listened to weather related pieces of music. In art we constructed weather charts, kites and coats. In drama we pretented to be toys in the playroom and acted out scenes from the four seasons; all  of which was in keeping with our monthly themes.  We enjoyed our long break after all our hard work.

May:

May proved to be a short but fun month in school. Bhí siopaí eagsúla sa seomra ranga agus bhí na paistí ag díol agus ag ceannach lena chéíle. We focused a lot on money this month in maths where the children counted and sorted coins, priced items, added coins and solved real life money problems.  Our work on the book "what the ladybird heard" ranged from reading the story to singing songs, creating farmyards, acting out scenes from the story, performing animal sounds and rhyming words and learning about the characteristics of animals. Through our study of the bees we learned many interesting facts about the life of the bee, we sampled honey and pollen, tried on a beesuit, experimented with a smoker and were shown both a domestic and a wild hive. It was a beautiful sunny few weeks and we enjoyed many a lesson outside.
