Seachtain na Gaeilge i Scoil Mhuire

21st Mar 2023

It has been a busy few weeks in Scoil Mhuire but both pupils and staff were ready for all the craic, ceoil agus rince of Seachtain na Gaeilge.

All classes took part in our annual Ceolchoirm na Scoile ar an gCéadaoin. Well done to all classes and their teachers for putting on a superb display of amhránaíocht, dánta, rince, ceoil agus scéalaíocht. That afternoon pupils from 3rd - 6th learned Ballaí Luimní sa Halla and Ms Dunne's class tried out An Damhsa Mór.

Lá Glas ar an Déardaoin proved to be a big hit with everyone. The school was awash with green and gold and a great selection of activities was planned. Juniors, Seniors, 1st and 2nd Class took part in a Céilí Mór amuigh sa chlós.  Junior Infants had a bubble treat outside before lunch. 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th Class enjoyed a Tráth na gCeist sa Hall. Tháinig Cian, Sophie K, Michael agus Amy Rose sa chéad háit. Bhí Jaime, Jayden, Thomas T agus Lauren sa dara háit agus bhí Lily, Caoimhe, Caitlín agus Lily sa triú háit. Comhghairdeas mór le gach einne.

The highlight of the day was undoubtedly the 'whole school An Dreoilín'. Chuaigh gach duine amach sa chlós agus bhí craic den scoth againn go léir. Thanks to our senior pupils for launching an impromptu, rousing rendition of Óró the Raithlín Bog to finish.

A long standing tradition in the parish is the Aifreann na Gaeilge ar Lá Fhéile Pádraig. Many thanks to 47 of our 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th class pupils who came along on Friday morning to celebrate St Patrick and sang so beautifully and respectfully. The choir received many compliments following the mass, which featured elements of the Ó Riada mass and hymns as Gaeilge and in Latin, concluding with Cúnamh Chugainn a Phádraig.

Our Parents Association have been working very hard over the past few weeks preparing a school entry for the Cashel St Patrick's Day parade. Pupils had designed their own t-shirts at a workshop held recently and pupils from 3rd and 4th class made flower crowns. A group of parents came together to create a stunning visual display as the centre piece to our theme of Happiness and Togetherness. All the hard work paid off as our group won 2nd place Overall in the parade and received a fabulous trophy which is already installed in pride of place in our trophy cabinet and prize money which we will have to put to a very special use as a reward for our wonderful pupils. Thanks to Vincent Flynn for the photographs of our parade entry. Comhghairdeas agus míle buíochas do gach dalta agus tuismitheoir a ghlac páirt sa pharáid.

That brings to an end our Seachtain na Gaeilge celebrations for this year - maith sibh gach éinne agus míle míle buíochas do na múinteoirí as ucht an obair agus an spraoi.
