Summer Holidays 2020 are Here!

30th Jun 2020

To All the Great Pupils of Scoil Mhuire,

I am sure you are all very happy to be at the end of the school year and to be heading into the summer holidays. Let’s hope that the weather improves now and that you will all be able to enjoy being outdoors enjoying our beautiful Knockavilla-Dundrum area. We are so lucky to live in such a lovely part of the world – a wonderful place to be able to spend your holidays!

This has been a very unusual school year! It was cut short due to Covid 19 and this has meant that we have all had to do our learning work since then in different ways. I am sure you have all tried your best over the last months to keep your brains and bodies active. Because you have done this at home with your parents and families, it will mean that you will be ready to do all the catching-up work in school in September with your teachers.

Luckily, Fifth and Sixth Classes were some of the few classes in the Cashel and Emly diocese to have received the Sacrament of Confirmation in 2020. All of the teachers and staff worked very hard to make this day special for you and it was a great success. Second Class missed out on their First Holy Communion day in May due to the restrictions but I am sure that arrangements will be made to ensure that these children receive the sacrament in the parish in the coming weeks/months. Meanwhile keep up the good work with your preparation at home with your Mammy and Daddy.

To our Sixth Class pupils - Abbie, Amy, Aoibhe, Becky, Ciara, Clara, Louie, Mary Ellen, Niamh, Sofia and Sophie - I wish a fond goodbye. We will all miss you in Scoil Mhuire. Most of you have spent eight years with us here and we are very proud of you all. I know that you will continue to do your best as you move on to the next phase in your education. I hope you will always remember your days in Knockavilla NS. I know that all of the teachers and staff members will remember you. Everyone here has worked hard to give you the best educational opportunities we can offer and we are proud of the progress you have made. Rememeber to always try your best and to treat others as you would like to be treated. Learn from your mistakes, everyone makes them, but smart people learn from them! If you do this you will succeed, and you will grow to be happy, fulfilled people. That is what we in Scoil Mhuire wish for you.

Every year we mark our Sixth Class’s leaving of Scoil Mhuire with a Mass but, unfortunately in the summer of 2020 this has not been possible. I hope that we will be able to arrange an End-of-Year Mass in the autumn, when we will all get a chance to say our goodbyes in person.

I hope you and your families all enjoy a lovely summer. Try to get plenty of fresh air and exercise. Keep reading all those wonderful books. And of course it very important that you and your families keep safe and healthy throughout the summer!  We have all worked very hard to keep Ireland and its people safe. Let us hope that the great work continues and it will be safe for us to return to school in the autumn.

Go n-éirí libh.

Le gach dea-ghuí,

Eleanor Ní Dhuibhir
