The Harty Cup comes to KNS

7th Feb 2023

Another great day in the sporting lives of the pupils of KNS - a surprise visit from the Harty Cup and special guests, including some of our own past pupils.

After a fiercely intense battle on the field of Semple Stadium last Sunday, Cashel Community School emerged victorious in the Harty Cup final against neighbours, Thurles CBS.  This was a much anticipated all Tipperary final and the excitement in the week leading up to the game was at fever pitch.  It was a particularly special win for CCS as it was their first Harty Cup final win and so one which will always be recorded in the history books.

We, in Scoil Mhuire, were honoured to welcome past pupils Shane Buckley and Diarmuid Carr, along with their club mate Adam Daly, to the school hall for a welcome like no other. The younger pupils waved their flags and the entire school community clapped and cheered as the boys made their entrance. They were joined by manager Mr Brendan Ryan and fellow coach Mr Anthony Roche and Tommy Hayes and Margaret Carroll from Knockavilla Donaskeigh Kickhams.

Mrs Tierney welcomed the visitors, commenting on how special it always is to welcome past pupils to the school to celebrate their achievements. Mr Moran spoke about Shane and Diarmuid in particular, and their time spent hurling in KNS.  He encouraged our pupils to follow their dreams and work hard and today could be their day in a few years time. Manager Mr Ryan thanked us for the great welcome and thanked the school staff for their work in helping the boys become the fantastic young men they are today.  Shane spoke to the pupils and encouraged them to stick with their practise and work hard always no matter what.

Shane presented 6th class pupils Lily Keating and Cian Buckley with a bag of sliotars for the school and each class had their photo taken with the three players and the silverware.  A night off homework was the perfect end to a very exciting day in KNS.
